The NCSC Collaborates With Derasat
The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International and Energy Studies (Derasat), organized a series of powerful presentations called Think Talks. These presentations bring together experts to discuss key topics aimed at ensuring Bahrain's active and influential role in global discussions. A recent lecture, titled “Laying the Foundations for a Secure Future in the Digital Space,” was presented by Mr. Yusuf Mohammed Mothanna, Director of Cyber Policy Directorate at the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), and Dr. Ashraf Mohammed Kishk, Director of the Strategic and International Studies Programme at Derasat’s Studies and Research Directorate.
Mr. Yusuf discussed the pillars of Bahrain’s National Cyber Security Strategy, which include establishing and enforcing effective cybersecurity governance and standards, fostering a cyber-aware nation, and strengthening cybersecurity defense through partnership and cooperation.
Mr. Yusuf also addressed how to manage the challenges and risks posed by rapidly evolving technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He highlighted that many countries are using AI to develop solutions that safeguard their critical infrastructure and sensitive data, all within a secure digital framework that promotes and strengthens digital innovation.
Dr. Ashraf emphasized the significant cyber threats and their impact on national security, particularly for major countries and organizations like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). He discussed the strategies and plans that countries are implementing to combat cyber threats, key security frameworks, and the United Nations’ initiatives aimed at coordinating global efforts to address the misuse of modern technology, which poses a threat to international peace and security.
The importance of proactive measures and international cooperation in tackling evolving cybersecurity challenges was highlighted. This can be achieved by fostering collaboration and sharing best practices to establish a safer digital environment, thereby supporting the advancement of technology and ensuring global security stability.
Derasat signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the NCSC on Mar. 5, 2023, to foster collaboration and exchange research expertise in the field of cybersecurity.
